The body’s ability to fight off infections depends heavily on the tonsils. The tissues in the back of our mouths and on either side of the throat are called tonsils, and they have an almond shape. Our tonsils contain cells that can catch any infections that try to enter our bodies. Our tonsils can occasionally become inflamed due to the same infections, which is what medical professionals refer to as tonsillitis.

The following are some natural home remedies for tonsillitis:
Chamomile Tea
Brew a cup of Chamomile tea mixed with honey, to serve as a relaxant and anti-inflammatory compound. Chamomile has been a home remedy that families have used for years. Chamomile contains chemical ingredients that have many benefits, one which soothes symptoms of tonsillitis. It helps the body to release inflammatory prostaglandin molecules that the body uses to produce while blood cells to fight inflammation.
- Pour eight ounces of hot water into a cup
- Add two teaspoons of honey
- Stir in one teaspoon of freshly squeezed lemon juice
Salt and Water
Gargling with warm water and iodized salt, several times a day, is a beneficial remedy for an inflamed tonsil, which has been used throughout history. Salt neutralizes the acids in the throat that cause burning sensations and irritation to the tonsils. Salt also increases the blood flow to the tissues within the tonsils and allows for faster circulation of infection fighting cells.
- Mix 1 teaspoon of salt in an 8 ounce glass of warm water
- Gargle with salt and water, then spit it out, do not swallow
A Lime Solution
A refreshing, sipping liquid is lime juice, mixed with warm water and a little honey for sweetness. Lime has always been used as an effective treatment to fight tonsillitis due to its acid properties that help in healing the infected cells caused by inflamed tonsils. Lime also contains large amounts of vitamin C, which increases our resistance to infections and illnesses.
- Squeeze a fresh lime into a glass of warm water Add about 2 teaspoons of honey, if needed
- Sip slowly and use throughout the day
European Banafsha as a Drink and Poultice
The banafsha flowers and leaves have been used to combat illnesses throughout European and Asian history. Now in the U.S., the banafsha is known as sweet violet, English violet, or garden violet. A banafsha mixture of its flowers and milk can be applied to the throat, as well as fixed to be a soothing drink. The banafsha leaves are edible and the water extract of this plant is used successfully in healing infections in the body, due to its vitro antibacterial compounds.
- Boil a packet (12 GM) of banafsha flowers in milk, let the mixture cool, filter it, then drink for healing

Bathe and Relax
You can take a warm bath every day, filled with Epsom salt to get rid of tonsillitis. Lie down in the tub, while the water is warm, covering your neck with this solution.
The General Epsom salt formula is one to two cups in a standard size bathtub. If your tub is smaller or larger, adjust accordingly.

Mix one teaspoon of turmeric powder and honey or sugar together and swallow it
